Seymour Cup Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2020

The Listed Seymour Cup (1600m) will be run and won at Kilmore on Sunday due to ongoing track concerns at Seymour.

A small field of eight has accepted for the $200,000 contest over the mile, with last year’s winner Craig Williams saddling the favourite Morrissy for the Leon and Troy Corstens yard.

In what is shaping up be a wide-open betting race, we’ve cast our eye over all eight chances in our 2020 Seymour Cup tips below.

Gold Fields

Gold Fields returned a nice result when fourth behind Windstorm during his last start at Caulfield after finding himself dead last at the turn.

The Logan McGill-trained eight-year-old won the Listed Sale Cup over the mile last year and is also a five-time winner over this trip.

With rain forecast, the son of Churchill Downs won’t want it too heavy, but he does appear a good value bet under the in-form Jamie Kah.

Romancer

Romancer is having his third run back from a spell after finding the line for fourth behind Riddle Me That in the Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) at Flemington a fortnight ago.

Grahame Begg’s New Zealand import beat home Orderofthegarter during the Autumn over the mile and maps to get a lovely run just off the speed from the inside draw.

Jordan Childs knows this horse inside and out and the pair rate as one of the top chances in a much easier race.

Morrissy

Morrissy has found the money in his last two starts placing second behind I Am Superman and third behind Windstorm and Buffalo River at Caulfield.

The form out of those reads nicely heading into his first look at the mile and he will be afforded every opportunity under last year’s winning rider, Craig Williams.

The champion hoop has won aboard the son of Snitzel three times previously and rates as the top chance.

All Too Huiying

All Too Huiying is having his first run back from a spell and represents good each-way value in Seymour Cup betting.

The son of All Too Hard is a three-time winner over the mile and does some of his best work on rain affected tracks. He should go forward under Michael Poy and prove tough to run down.

Bartholomeu Dias

Bartholomeu Dias is resuming from a three month spell but might find this a little tough going rising in grade first-up.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace six-year-old has never won over the mile before and worth consideration over further.

Benitoite

Benitoite began awkwardly in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes over the mile at Moonee Valley where he failed to make up ground running seventh.

He does look a live hope in this field though stepping back in grade, especially with wet weather forecast across the entire weekend.

The son of Americain has won four from his five starts on the soft and has also won previously third-up.

Balf’s Choice

Balf’s Choice is back from a freshen-up after finding no luck in the Listed Balaklava Cup over the mile last month.

The 2017 Seymour Cup winner hasn’t found the winner’s stall in over 15 months and will likely find this just as tough.

Rainbow Thief

Rainbow Thief had excuses in his last start at Caulfield where he struggled to overcome the wide draw under Jamie Kah.

Michael Moroney’s five-year-old found the placings in two starts over the mile at Caulfield and Warwick Farm during the Autumn, but this does look beyond him.

Seymour Cup Tip

8 Rainbow Thief at $7.00
