Skirt The Law put on proven Magic Millions Classic path

Skirt The Law’s physical make-up, combined with what has proven a winning Magic Millions formula, is why Tony Gollan’s top two-year-old will be in action at the Gold Coast this Saturday.

The daughter of Better Than Ready will be out to stretch her unbeaten run to three in the $150,000 Gold Pearl for two-year-old fillies.

The 1100-metre event is just seven days before her Grand Final, the $2.5 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast, but Gollan said this had been his preferred approach all along.

“It’s worked very effectively for other trainers and other horses over the years and she profiles as the right sort of horse for it,” he said.

“She’s very strong – she’s not that feminine, she’s more like a little colt – so I think the seven-day back will be spot on for her.

“She’s still got to show us she’s at that level. The good two-year-olds that have backed up and done well (in the Magic Millions) have been very good the week before, so if she’s very good on Saturday you’ll see her be very good again the week after.”

Coolangatta won last year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic off a 20-day break, but six of the previous nine Millions winners, including four of the previous five, backed up.

Shaquero won the Millions after a narrow second in the Gold Nugget seven days earlier, while the other five to win on the back-up – Real Surreal (2013), Le Chef (2015), Houtzen (2017), Sunlight (2018) and Exhilarates (2019) – all won the week before.

Skirt The Law will be highly-fancied this weekend having followed her 2-3/4-length debut win at Doomben on November 12 with a 5-1/4-length romp at the same track on December 3.

Excel D’Or, Just Glamourous, She’s A Rogue and Tracy’s Spirit are among some of her potential rivals in one of two events for juveniles at the Gold Coast this weekend.

Godfather, who is part of Peter and Paul Snowden’s powerful Millions arsenal, heads entries for the Gold Nugget, which also includes Magic Millions Wyong Classic runner-up Quasimoto and Fameux, who has trialled impressively on multiple occasions in Sydney.
