The South Australian Derby has been won by some outstanding horses on their way to bigger and better things, with names like Russian Camelot, Rebel Raider and Mummify among the honour roll.

South Australian Derby – Winner
Looking for a bit of value in South Australian Derby betting, and I thought that High Approach got a lot of ticks.
High Approach has won just two of nine career starts to date, but he has improved with each start back this time, and he was last seen finishing a credible fifth in the ATC Derby during The Championships.
The reason I like this horse is because John Allen is engaged to ride.
His record in the South Australian Derby is excellent, and of the two Group 1 features already contested in the 2023 Adelaide Autumn Carnival, he’s ridden two winners!
Suggested Bet: No. 4 High Approach
South Australian Derby – 2nd
His form earlier this prep suggested that he might not have come up, but Red Sun Sensation couldn’t have been tough on his way to a win in the Chairman’s Stakes here a fortnight ago, and he’s right back into Derby contention!
The Awesome Rock gelding returned some nice performances in spring last year, finishing second behind Mr Maestro in the Super Impose Stakes most notably.
Trainer Peter Moody has always had an opinion of him, and the South Australian Derby does look an ideal Group 1 target for Red Sun Sensation.

South Australian Derby – 3rd
One filly will step out in this year’s South Australian Derby field, and she’s opened our market favourite!
She’s Fit has been a strong and consistent performer in Perth since making her debut, and she recorded consecutive wins in the Natasha Stakes and the WA Oaks before filling the minors in the WA Derby.
She couldn’t have done a lot more without winning the Australasian Oaks here at Morphettville a fortnight ago, and getting out in trip this week should suit.

South Australian Derby – 4th
Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young will saddle several gallopers in the 2023 South Australian Derby, but I thought that Suizero represented their best chance of winning.
Suizero has missed placing once in his last eight trips to the races, and his recent form has been particularly impressive, including placings in the Alister Clark, ATC Derby and the Chairman’s here a fortnight ago.
He steps out in peak order, Opie Bosson is flying in from New Zealand to ride, and we know that he’ll stay!
