The who’s who of racing names based in Melbourne’s south-east have taken up slots for two races to be held by Southside Racing.
The two $1 million races will be staged on Cranbourne Cup Day, November 23 and on Pakenham Cup Day, December 21.
Each slot costs the holder $100,000 per year for the chance to compete for $2 million.
The Meteorite, a 1200m sprint for three-year-olds and over at set-weights plus penalties, will be run at Cranbourne with The Supernova, again run under same conditions, but at 1400m, to be staged at Pakenham.
The slot holders include prominent names in Australian and New Zealand racing, including a mix of owners, trainers, breeders, syndicates, corporate entities and race clubs.
The same horse, trainer or jockey does not have to compete in both races which can be mixed and matched how the slot holder sees fit.
Neil Bainbridge, Chief Executive Officer of Southside Racing, highlighted the significance of this milestone.
“The Southside Slot Series is unlike anything we’ve seen before in Australian racing, and the calibre of slot holders reflects the industry’s enthusiasm for this groundbreaking format,” Bainbridge said.
“We can’t wait to see the best contenders compete on the track and make history.”
In addition to the prize money on offer, the slot holder who accrues the most points across both races will also be awarded a special bonus, further raising the stakes while Southside Racing has also confirmed its continued focus on community partnerships, with $20,000 to be donated to local charities and community groups throughout the series.
