Spring Racing Carnival 2016 rolls on to Ladbrokes Park

Racing fans will have one last chance to enjoy the spring carnival this Saturday at Sandown Spring Carnival Race Day at Ladbrokes Park.

Warm weather is predicted throughout the day, providing the perfect opportunity for families to enjoy the spacious lawns of Sandown.

The racing action includes a 10-race card made up entirely of black-type races, delivering a dream scenario for racing purists. The first race jumps at 12.25pm with race 10 concluding the day’s racing at 5.55pm.

The headline event is undoubtedly the $300,000 Quayclean Zipping Classic where Who Shot Thebarman is aiming to go back-to-back following his victory in the Group Two race last year.

The feature race’s namesake, Zipping, will also be on-course to entertain crowds and parade prior to the race. The champion gelding won four consecutive Sandown Classics between 2007 and 2010 before the name of the race was changed in 2011 in his honor.

Saturday’s races will include a strong international contingent, with Qewy (IRE), Beautiful Romance (GB), Secret Number (GB) and Big Orange (GB) set to line up one last time this season on Australian shores.

Melbourne Cup fourth place-getter Qewy will favourite in the Ladbrokes Sandown Cup while Beautiful Romance, Secret Number and Big Orange will all do battle in the Quayclean Zipping Classic.

The kids will also enjoy a day out at the Clip Clop Club with rock climbing and jumping castles, face painting and pony rides.

Head to Ladbrokes for the final day of Spring Racing. Gates open at 11:30am.
