Takeover Target Stakes 2014 – Hidden Warrior on trial for Gold Coast

A good barrier draw and the presence of the front running Zaratone in the Carrington Stakes give Hidden Warrior the chance to return to the form trainer Paul Perry wants to see before committing him to a Gold Coast trip.

A Group Three winner at Moonee Valley during the 2012 spring, Hidden Warrior’s past two unplaced runs have been a little disappointing.

But Perry expects him to bounce back to the form he showed to win three starts ago at Rosehill when he lines up at Randwick on Wednesday.

“He is real good in himself and I didn’t think his last run was too bad,” Perry said

“Barrier three will help him and having speed in the race is a plus.

“If he goes as well as I know he can we will look at the sprint race at the Magic Millions or the Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford.

“It all depends on Wednesday.”

The Listed $100,000 Takeover Target (1200m) is on January 10, the day before the $200,000 Magic Millions Sprint over the same distance at the Gold Coast.

There are eight final acceptors for the Carrington (1100m) headed by the Bjorn Baker-trained Zaratone on 59kg.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Dances On Stars is the early favourite and is on the 54kg minimum.

Perry will also bring Rosabaya to Randwick for the 1400m maiden on the New Year’s Day program.

The filly was an unlucky fourth on debut at Newcastle, her home track, earlier this month when she couldn’t get clear running in the straight.

“I think she maybe should have won,” Perry said.

“She was pretty unlucky.”

Rosabaya will be ridden by former Perth jockey Paul King who relocated to NSW a couple of months ago and has made his mark on the provincial circuit.

“We have developed a good association,” Perry said.

“Hopefully it continues.”
