In the news:
Kerrin McEvoy has escaped injury in a race fall at Ellerslie in New Zealand.
McEvoy was one of several Australian jockeys who headed to Auckland to ride at the meeting on Sunday which featured the $1 million Karaka Million for two-year-olds.
The retained jockey for Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley in Australia, McEvoy came off the Mike Moroney-trained Massale before the home turn in the feature race.
McEvoy hurt his knee when he hit the ground and did not take his ride in the final race but reassured his fans via Twitter he was OK.
“Hit the deck but all ok other than banged knee, wiped out a few uprights, thank god for plastic rails ” he said.
Sydney-based kiwi James McDonald returned home to boot home Equanimity in the first race while Tommy Berry continued his tradition of riding a winner whenever he travels, steering Deane Martin to win the Stayers’ Cup.
Globe trotting Australian Noel Callow added his name to the winners list aboard Simbaah in a 1200m race.
