The luxury of the minimum weight gives Poste Restante the chance to register an overdue stakes win in the Listed Tattersall’s City Cup at Randwick.
Trainer Desleigh Forster said the mare would appreciate carrying 54kg on Wednesday after being slugged with 59kg at her past two starts in Brisbane.
“For some reason when we bring horses across the border they seem to drop three to five ratings points,” Forster said.
“That’s good for her and being on the minimum weight does her plenty of favours.
“She has to carry big weights in Brisbane for a mare and she doesn’t have a very big frame.”
“I expect her to be charging home and the 2400 metres suits her.
There were nine acceptances for the Tatt’s Cup headed by Travolta on 59kg.
Poste Restante will be ridden by Paul Hammersley who recently relocated from the Gold Coast.
“Paul has never ridden her before but rode a lot for me in Queensland,” Forster said.
Destiny’s Kiss was put up as TAB’s $2.50 favourite in first markets on Monday ahead of Travolta at $4 while Poste Restante was a $16 chance.
Group Three-placed in the 2012 Rough Habit Plate, Poste Restante was transferred to Forster from New Zealand trainer Howard Matthews after unplaced runs in that year’s Queensland Oaks and Derby.
She has won five races for Forster, her most recent on November 16. Two weeks later she made a mess of the start and dropped Michael Cahill but he managed to hold on to her and there was no harm done.
She had trouble getting a clear run in a 2100m race at Doomben on December 14 and finished fourth.
“We thought about the Summer Cup for her on Boxing Day but she is ready for the 2400 metres,” Forster said.
The trainer will weigh up her options with the stable’s sprint star Adebisi who is entered for the Bat Out Of Hell (900m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday with the Listed Canterbury Classic (1100m) in Sydney on January 24 his target.
“He will get plenty of weight at the Gold Coast so I’ll just take a look at what’s running,” Forster said.
“If he doesn’t run at the Gold Coast we can give him another barrier trial before we take him to Sydney for the race at Canterbury.”
