Team Snowden still working out 2022 Golden Slipper squad

Peter and Paul Snowden will split their juveniles between states this weekend with Revolutionary Miss set to fly the stable’s flag solo in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

The training duo are picking their marks carefully with their two-year-old squad and Peter Snowden is keen to keep his options open with several of their better youngsters.

Revolutionary Miss earned her place in Victoria’s juvenile feature with a fast-finishing win in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for the fillies’ at Caulfield earlier this month and Snowden is confident of another bold showing.

“She will back up there and she handled Caulfield really well the other day,” Snowden said.

The 2022 Golden Slipper picture will take further shape at Randwick with the running of the Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) for the fillies and Skyline Stakes (1200m) for the colts and geldings.

Snowden says the stable is likely to have nominations for both races but could have a stronger hand a week later in the Reisling and Todman Stakes over the same course and distances.

“I will nominate Russian Conquest (for the Sweet Embrace Stakes) but we will probably wait another week,” he said.

“(Listed placegetter) Calgary Stampede will run in the colts’ race, and I will nominate Metallicity but I might wait another week for him as well.”

Calgary Stampede will be looking to rebound from a midfield effort in the Inglis Millennium while Metallicity is coming off a close-up debut fourth to Mumbai Jewel in the Pierro Plate.

Russian Conquest pushed unbeaten filly Coolangatta when runner-up in the Magic Millions and she is second favourite for the Golden Slipper behind her last-start conqueror.

Co-trainer Ciaron Maher has indicated Coolangatta will take her place in the Sweet Embrace after bypassing a barrier trial during the week.
