Ten Sovereigns on track for The Everest

Irish horse Ten Sovereigns has had a light work-out at Canterbury Racecourse where he is in quarantine preparing for the $14 million Everest.

The July Cup winner travelled to Australia with National Guard who led the pair in a canter on Monday, a day after their arrival.

Ten Sovereigns will represent his owners Coolmore and trainer Aidan O’Brien in The Everest as long as the track at Randwick on October 19 is not rain-affected.

He lost seven kilograms on the flight to Australia but travelling foreman Andrew Murphy he would not take long to regain the weight.

Murphy said Ten Sovereigns would gallop later in the week, possibly on Thursday.

Coolmore Australia boss Tom Magnier has said they will not make the same mistake they did last year when US Navy Flag ran on an unsuitable wet track.

James Harron and Godolphin have yet to confirm who runs in their slots with the winner of the Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield on October 12 to be offered the Melbourne Racing Club’s spot.

Slot holders have until the Tuesday before the Everest to announce their runners which at that stage must be chosen from runners entered for the Sydney Stakes on Everest day.
