Results: Time Is Precious out sprints Victory Vein Stakes rivals

Gerald Ryan is weighing up the possibilities for Victory Vein Stakes winner Time Is Precious with a Magic Millions Classic tilt chief among his options.

The filly upset Breeders’ Plate runner-up and odds-on favourite Postcode to score an all-the-way win in the Victory Vein Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday in a performance that came as little surprise to her trainer.

“When she jumped to the front and had a couple of easy sectionals I thought she would be very hard to run down,” Ryan said.

“She is a filly, on type and on pedigree, who will get better over 1400 metres.”

Time Is Precious started $8 and had a half-neck to spare over Postcode ($1.95 fav) with Gravina ($10) getting clear late to grab third, another three-quarters of a length back.

Ryan says Time Is Precious will be aimed at either the $1 million Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill in three weeks or the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast in January depending on how she comes through her debut run.

“We’ll just take her home and see how she does and what we do from there,” Ryan said.

“If we go to the Golden Gift there will be no Queensland. You can’t do all of them.”

Ryan secured Time Is Precious for $120,000 as a yearling, a price that looks cheap given she is a daughter of Snitzel out of Group One placegetter Rose Of Sharon.

The trainer was equally chuffed to pick her up for what he regarded as a bargain price and said he had been following the progeny of her granddam, Rose Rewards, for several years.

“Her grandmother went through the same draft as Savabeel and Savabeel, I thought, was the pick of the colts (that year) and Rose Reward was the pick of the fillies,” Ryan said.

“I just watched the pedigree all the way through and then she came into the ring.”
