Laure Me out to turn the tables in the 2020 Summer Cup

Trainer David Pfieffer fancies the chances of consistent gelding Laure Me In overturning the ATC Cup result when he lines up for a Summer Cup rematch with Greysful Glamour.

The Pfieffer-trained gelding finished second to Greysful Glamour in the Listed Rosehill race and she has since franked the form by taking out the Group Two Villiers Stakes.

The six-year-old will enjoy a significant weight turnaround and meets Greysful Glamour 4-1/2 kilograms better at the handicaps.

Laure Me In finished 2-1/2 lengths astern of the mare last start but Pfieffer believes the margin should have been much closer.

“It’s solid form. If we had have drawn a better gate that day we could have given her a real scare,” Pfieffer said.

Laure Me In was given a freshen up after his ATC Cup performance on November 28.

He has been kept up to the mark with a barrier trial win last week as part of a routine the trainer has found the horse enjoys.

“He will be four weeks between runs going into the Summer Cup so the trial was just to keep him ticking over,” Pfieffer said.

“He loves the routine of racing, then he goes out to the paddock for a few days, he gets a trip down to Kurnell beach then gets back to the stables, has a little blow-out barrier trial and off to the races again.

“He is a horse just loving his life at the moment.”

Tommy Berry will partner Laure Me In on Saturday as the jockey looks to win the 2000 metre race for the first time.

The Summer Cup is likely to be the penultimate run of the horse’s campaign with Pfieffer keen to chase country Cup success later in the season.

“There might be one more run for him after Saturday and then we might give him a short let up and look towards something like a Wagga Cup,” he said.

Greysful Glamour is the Summer Cup top weight with 59kg.

The Chris Waller-trained I’m Imposing is the only horse in the past 20 years to successfully carry that much weight when scoring back-to-back wins in 2014.
