Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 25/3/2023

The first of two Group 1 feature races at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday will see a smart field of three-year-old fillies assemble for the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Kiwi raider Prowess has unmatchable form lines in her home country, and she has received plenty of early interest in Vinery Stud Stakes betting, but there is no doubt that she will need to go to another level to win this week.

Have I put her on top? Read on to my 2023 Vinery Stud Stakes Tips below to find out!

Suggested Bets

Vinery Stud Stakes – Winner

I have not.

Pavitra’s last-start performance in the Kembla Grange Classic was simply too good to ignore, and I think that she is going to prove to be the superior 2000m horse.

Pavitra has returned plenty of smart performances since making her debut, and she ended a strong spring preparation second behind She’s Extreme in the Oaks.

She clearly needed her first run back when fifth, beaten nearly three lengths in the Millie Fox Stakes, but she went to another level second up, and will take further improvement into the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Pavitra

Vinery Stud Stakes – 2nd

She has been nothing short of excellent in New Zealand, and while she could come out and make me look silly, I think that Prowess might just be done by Pavitra in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Prowess has recorded six wins and a placing from her eight career starts to date, improving with each and peaking with her first career Group 1 victory in the Bonecrusher Stakes earlier this month.

She clearly has the ability, while the booking of Mark Zahra combined with drawing barrier 4 adds further confidence.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Prowess

Vinery Stud Stakes – 3rd

She’s a Group 1 winner over 1200m and 1400m, but I am keen to see Fireburn out to 2000m for the first time in the Vinery Stud Stakes, and she does look ready to peak fourth-up.

Fireburn stunned the Australian racing community last autumn, winning both the Slipper and the Inglis Sires’ before only just being denied of the Triple Crown when second behind She’s Extreme in the Champagne.

She wasn’t at her best in the spring, but she has improved with each start back this time, and I thought that the way she hit the line in the Phar Lap Stakes a fortnight ago suggested she’d like this rise in trip.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Fireburn

Vinery Stud Stakes – 4th

Another kiwi raider, Polygon, will take her place in the 2023 Vinery Stud Stakes field, and I thought that she could take big improvement from a fair Australian debut in the Kembla Grange Classic.

Polygon ended her last prep with consecutive wins in Group 3 and Group 2 company respectively, and I thought that her fresh performance in Australia earlier this month suggested that she might have just been a run or two short.

Getting out in trip should suit, and I like the booking of Brett Prebble for this tilt at Group 1 glory.

Suggested Bet: No. 4 Polygon
