Watch đŸ“ș $1.95 million dollar filly wins on debut at Moe

Expensive yearling purchase Humming has recouped a small portion of her purchase price with a debut win at Moe.

Humming led throughout to take out the Ladbrokes Punter Assist Maiden Plate (1200m) on Wednesday as the $1.50 favourite, registering a 1-Ÿ length win under Damian Lane.

Seamus Mills Bloodstock parted with $1.95 million to secure the daughter of I Am Invincible from the stakes winning producing mare Hips Don’t Lie at the 2021 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, and Wednesday’s win recouped connections $20,625 in prize money.

Hips Don’t Lie has produced stakes winners Ennis Hill and Lake Geneva, with the later running third in both the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper as a two-year-old for Hawkes Racing.

Humming went into Wednesday’s contest having had three jump-outs at Cranbourne along with a trial at Geelong on January 31 in which she finished third.

Lane rode Humming in that Geelong trial and made the trip to Moe to take the ride on Wednesday.

“She began well, and I used her a little bit early which I hadn’t done in her jump-out, so she was a little bit ‘looky’ out there in front,” Lane told racing.com.

“But she idled nicely, and I always felt I was in control.

“She can be a little bit hot at times, but she’s been getting better all-the-time. I think she will grow out of it with more experience and matures a little bit.

“Being a well-bred filly with a big price tag, it’s important to knock that over early and hopefully, at this time of year, we can get her going into some better types of races.”
