Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse delivered on her promise to get results on the racetrack as well as in the sales ring when Whittington gave her an early double at the Gold Coast.

Whittington ($2.60) smashed the 1100-metre track record when he beat Emmalene ($6) by a neck in the Magic Millions Sprint with 1-3/4 lengths to Steel Zip ($17) in third.

The colt ran 1:01.77 which clipped 0.5 seconds off the course record.

Waterhouse has been the star of the first three days of the Magic Millions Sales as the leading buyer of yearlings.

“I said I would be performing on the racetrack as well as the sales ring and that is what we have done,” Waterhouse said after Whittington added to Driefontein’s win earlier in the day.

Both Whittington and Driefontein are raced by Star Thoroughbreds which this week confirmed its new horses will go to trainer Chris Waller.

However, Whittington and the other current Star horses will remain with Waterhouse.

“This is a really good sprinter going back to his win in the Breeders’ Plate,” Waterhouse said.

“He had some growing problems but he has flourished into a really nice horse.

“We will head back to Sydney now for our carnival.”

Tommy Berry completed a winning treble aboard Whittington after earlier success on the Bryan Guy-trained Noisy Ocean and Driefontein.

“You can’t beat Gai when she is in form,” Berry said.

Trainer Liam Birchley was thrilled with the run of Emmalene who was having her first start since June.

“Look at the time they ran. It is sensational and she was only just beaten,” Birchley said.
