Will Davison is one of at least four withdrawals from Sunday’s 200km Supercars race at Symmons Plains as teams count the cost of their wet and wild weekend in Tasmania.

The 2016 Bathurst champion spent the night in a Launceston hospital after as a result of the 12-car pile-up in the early stages of Saturday’s race.

He was a popular patient through the night, visited by drivers Jamie Whincup, Paul Dumbrell and others after being admitted with lower back pain.

Thankfully for the 34-year-old, he expects to make a return to the series shortly.

“Blown away by the support, thankyou. I wont be trackside today, hoping everyone has a safe race. Big hit & a rough night but I’ll be back,” he Tweeted.

Taz Douglas, Rick Kelly and James Courtney won’t be driving on Sunday due to damage sustained in the concertina-like crash.

Thankfully for Brad Jones Racing, their trio of impacted drivers are set to take the track, as is Walkinshaw Racing’s Scott Pye.

Unfortunately for drivers, there’s no respite to be found by looking at the rain radar ahead of the fourth race of the series.

The sun is nowhere to be seen at the northern Tasmanian circuit, with up to 25 millimetres of rain is expected.

Support categories on Sunday morning contended with huge pools of water on the track, with several cars aquaplaning off the tarmac.

The rain isn’t expected to clear before the race, which begins at 2:05pm.

While Shane van Gisbergen won the truncated race on Saturday, a decision was reached between organisers, stewards and teams not to award any championship points.

Supercars managing director Matt Braid said he was disappointed for drivers and fans at the lack of Saturday action.

“We’re here to put on a race,” he said.

“Everyone did a great job to try and get a race on in the circumstances.

“We didn’t think it was fair to everybody, all competitors, that we award points (and) stewards agreed with that.”

Prodrive Racing Australia chief Tim Edwards said he felt lucky to avoid the carnage, and agreed with the call.

“I can completely understand why they canned the points,” he said.
