Finland’s Jari-Matti Latvala took a slim lead in the Rally of Spain after world champion Sebastien Ogier was slowed by a minor accident on Saturday.
Latvala will start Sunday’s final day of rallying in his Volkswagen Polo with a 1.6-second lead over Dani Sordo.
“Going from asphalt to gravel after two days won’t be easy,” Latvala said.
“It’s a new challenge but I have a good feeling. I hope the weather will give me some support. A little bit of moisture to dampen the loose gravel would be nice.”
Sordo tried to keep his Citroen in second so that his main rival would hopefully clean up Sunday’s gravel stages by starting before him.
“I lost a bit of time at the end of the stage so I could be in a better position tomorrow,” Sordo said.
“All I can do is try my best. The tactics started yesterday and have gone OK. Can I win? I hope so, it’s a big challenge.”
Ogier was the overnight leader but finished the leg 46.5 seconds off Latvala’s pace in fourth place behind Thierry Neuville, after he broke the front left wheel of his Polo on a rock.
Sunday’s final six stages will be run on gravel after the first two days were on asphalt.
