Tickford unimpressed with parity debate

Tickford Racing have hit out at Supercars parity fearmongers, saying debate over the Mustang’s dominance denies them deserved credit for their good start to the season.

Mustangs again reigned supreme on Thursday at the Australian Grand Prix, leading many to believe the series will become uncompetitive.

Scott McLaughlin won two pole positions and will hope to make that four out of four when qualifying resumes on Friday afternoon.

But Cam Waters and Chaz Mostert, both among the fastest at Albert Park, feel their efforts – and that of their team – are being overlooked by Holden fans that see the two-door coupe with a natural advantage.

“Everyone is forgetting. They go on about this parity bullshit,” Waters said.

“In 2017, 2018, (DJR Team Penske) were still up the front winning every weekend.

“We come into this year and it’s actually no different.

“The only difference Tickford has taken a step forward.

“When they bang on about parity and all this stuff, it takes away from all the boys that have worked the Christmas break hard back at the workshop.”

Mostert said anyone eager to keep banging the parity drum were just “adding controversy”.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Jamie Whincup, he pointed to the Red Bull HRT’s third-placed qualifying effort as evidence the Commodores weren’t off the pace.

“J-Dub, where were you in the last one, third? Eight hundredths (of a second) off (McLaughlin)? What car were you in? A Holden.”

Mostert then turned to assembled journalists to say “come on guys”.
