If this game was in any other week except for the first one, the play would be to hammer the Bengals at the line.

They are a team with genuine Super Bowl aspirations taking on a rebuilding team that is at best a year away from even challenging for a playoff spot.

However Week 1 history is not kind on Cincinnati with some highly underwhelming performances.

Last season they were bludgeoned by what turned out to be a thoroughly mediocre Browns team, in 2022 they went deep into overtime against a similarly average Pittsburgh team and 2021 saw them go down to the wire with an 8-9 Minnesota side.

Despite having a healthy Joe Burrow this season, there are major question marks over his two receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, both of whom are waiting for new contracts and the running back room is yet to anoint a true starter.

Should they manage to eek out another close win against an overmatched opponent it is not a cause for concern, just a sign that they are going to need a few weeks to really take off in 2024.
