Mitch Aubusson is set to become the Sydney Roosters’ most capped player after signing a one-year extension with the powerhouse NRL club.
Aubusson, 31, debuted for the Roosters in 2007 and is the third most-capped player in the Tricolours’ 111-year history, with 286 appearances.
The one-club forward has signed until the end of 2020 and has only fewer appearances than Anthony Minichiello (302 games) and Luke Ricketson (301).
“My heart is with the Sydney Roosters. I’m a Rooster through and through,” Aubusson said.
“There’s a strong bond among the group here, and I’m really proud to know that I’ll have the honour of wearing the Roosters jersey for another year.”
The Roosters are trying to become the first team in the NRL era to win back-to-back premierships this season and coach Trent Robinson said Aubusson was a crucial part of their future.
“Mitch embodies what it means to be a Rooster,” said Robinson.
“A man who leads by example both on and off the field, Mitch is a terrific mentor for both the current players in our squad and for those coming through the grades.”
Aubusson is a three-time recipient of the James Mathews Award given to the Roosters’ club man of the year.
