Brodie Croft ready to lead at NRL Broncos

It hasn’t taken long for Brodie Croft to make an impression on his new Brisbane teammates.

Jake Turpin, who played alongside Croft in Melbourne’s youth ranks, said the 22-year-old halfback is showing his leadership qualities already at Red Hill.

“I’m really enjoying having one of my good mates here and he’s loving it too,” Turpin said.

“You can tell by training, he’s pretty much come in and he’s a leader already.

“It’s really good to have Crofty here.”

Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold views Croft as his long-term option for the Broncos’ No.7 jersey.

It’s been a problematic position for the club since the departure of Ben Hunt in 2017.

Youngster Tom Dearden, Sean O’Sullivan and Turpin all played halfback for the Broncos in 2019 with neither making the role their own.

Croft is well known to Seibold with the Broncos mentor an assistant at the Storm under Craig Bellamy as the youngster rose through the ranks.

While unable to nail down a first team spot at the Storm, Turpin believes the lessons Croft learned in Melbourne will hold him in good stead at his new home.

“He’s been in a really good system for a long time now and knowing what that system’s like to bring that competitive attitude is exactly what this club needs and it’s just going to make for a better 2020.”
