Out-of-favour Melbourne halfback Brodie Croft appears headed home to Brisbane after meeting with Broncos coach Anthony Seibold.
Croft hasn’t been a part of the Storm’s finals plans and will be on the sidelines as they take on reigning premiers Sydney Roosters in a preliminary final at the SCG on Saturday night.
Brisbane are looking for a new playmaker while Melbourne need to ease some salary cap pressure making Croft a perfect fit.
Melbourne on Thursday refused to comment on speculation regarding Croft’s future saying they were concentrating on their final.
Taking over from Cooper Cronk at the start of 2018, Croft led the Storm into the grand final last year and was first-choice halfback until last month when coach Craig Bellamy reshuffled his troops in order to get exciting young fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen into the lineup.
Croft, 22, grew up in Queensland and attended school in Brisbane where he played rugby.
He’s very highly thought of at the Storm with Bellamy saying he had continued to do extras after training through the finals despite not being part of the main squad.
The Broncos are reviewing their roster and leadership group following their thumping loss to Parramatta in week one of the finals.
They failed to settle on a genuine halves combination, rotating five players through the pairing.
Veteran Melbourne centre Will Chambers may also be on the move but the Storm are adamant the 31-year-old won’t suit up for another club.
Chambers is instead contemplating big-money overseas offers to return to rugby union.
