Bulldogs bring Britt back to family club

Canterbury’s slow rebuild has continued with the luring of Dean Britt, son of former captain Darren, to Belmore on a two-year deal.

Dean comes after almost three years at South Sydney, where he has nearly established himself in Wayne Bennett’s top 17.

After debuting against Melbourne in 2017, Britt had featured in just two games at Redfern under former coach Anthony Seibold.

However the 25-year-old has played nine games under Bennett and is a serious chance of joining the Bulldogs with some finals experience.

His father Darren played 168 games over eight seasons at Canterbury, including the club’s premiership triumph in 1995.

He played two years alongside current coach Dean Pay in 1994-95, before Pay moved on to Parramatta.

“Dean is an excellent forward who will provide another important piece for our forward pack next season,” Bulldogs chief executive Andrew Hill said.

“He has shown this year with his performances for the Rabbitohs that he is hard-working and tough and has the attributes that we as a club are looking for to take us forward.

“He has a great background in what the Bulldogs stand for with his father Darren having been such a major part of the club in the 90’s and we look forward to welcoming Dean to the Bulldog family next season.”

While the Bulldogs remain hamstrung by salary cap issues for at least another 12 months, Dean is the third signing the club has made so far this season.

Fullback Dallin Watene-Zelezniak arrived mid-season on an 18-month deal, while Melbourne forward Joe Stimson also penned a three-year contract.
