Canberra want Roosters fans in Viking clap

Canberra have called for Sydney Roosters fans to join their famous Viking clap in a bid to help surpass the AFL grand final as Australia’s greatest sporting spectacle.

The NRL has approved the Raiders’ pre-game ritual to be performed at ANZ Stadium before the grand final on Sunday and it will be led by club legend Mal Meninga.

Canberra assistant coach Brett White called for fans to join forces on the NRL’s biggest day in a bid to outdo the rival code.

“I really hope the Roosters fans jump on board and they’re all doing the Viking clap because all I hear from Victoria is the AFL grand final and how wonderful it is,” White said.

“Imagine if 80,000 people were doing the Viking clap.

“The NRL grand final could be a spectacle on the world stage and we’ll blow the AFL grand final out of the water if everyone jumps on board.

“How good would it be to sit back in 10 years time and tell your kids about the day the Viking clap came to ANZ, it’s an exciting thought.”

The Raiders are outsiders in their first grand final since 1994 while the Roosters are attempting to become the first club in 26 years to win back-to-back premierships.
