Cordner tells Blues rookies to relax early

NSW captain Boyd Cordner will tell his 11 State of Origin debutants to embrace the time away from football in the lead up to next Wednesday’s series opener in Melbourne.

Blues players gathered for their first official training session at Coogee Oval on Tuesday morning and Cordner said he’d tell the record haul of rookies to not spend all their energy early in the 10-day camp.

“It’s a long week. Origin is really intense. It can take it out of you if you’re thinking about footy all the time … When we’ve got some downtime and time away from footy, that’s exactly what it is,” Cordner said.
