Preview:

Having won four in a row, including a win over competition front-runners South Sydney, the Cronulla Sharks were brought down to earth last week by Melbourne 38-6.

The Sharks will have the chance to bounce right back in the winners circle has they take on a struggling Parramatta outfit that have won one of their past seven matches.

Cronulla are 1-3 when asked to cover the line playing at home and here, they have been asked to give Parramatta 14 points start.

When the two sides met in round 5 of this year, Parramatta were victorious 13 – 6. It was Parramatta second successive victory of the Sharks and their third in the past four matches.

It was an improved effort by Parramatta last week against the Roosters despite losing 38 – 24 and a similar effort here would see them finish within the point start but it’s hard to tip Parramatta with any confidence.

Hayne hurts hamstring in Eels’ NRL loss

Parramatta and NSW fullback Jarryd Hayne is in doubt for State of Origin II after limping off the field during the Eels’ 38-24 NRL defeat to the Sydney Roosters on Friday night.

Hayne, who started off the bench due to fatigue from the Blues’ opening-game victory 48 hours earlier, was helped from the field with under 10 minutes remaining at Parramatta Stadium.

Eels coach Ricky Stuart said he had a brief chat to Hayne in the dressing rooms post-match and was upbeat about the chances of his No.1 being fit for the June 26 Origin encounter in Brisbane, where NSW will be aiming to win their first series in eight years.

“He’ll have an MRI (scan) tomorrow and we’ll find out the extent of it,” said Stuart.

“Maybe a grade one … but we’ll do everything we can for him to give him the best chance for Origin.”

Jake Mullaney started at fullback in place of Hayne, who entered the fray in the 26th minute to replace late call-up Luke Kelly at five-eighth.

Hayne had a solid game, diving over for the first try of the second half to pull the Eels to within six points after the Roosters led 24-12 at halftime.

But he was helped from the ground after attempting to chase down Anthony Minichiello as he scooted 70 metres for the match-winning try.
