Darius Boyd wins Newcastle NRL award

Newcastle fullback Darius Boyd is the Knights Player of the Year.

Boyd, who played in all three Origin games for Queensland this year and will represent Australia in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, featured in 26 NRL games, missing just one due to Origin duties.

The 26-year-old was one of only three players to reach double figures in tries, try assists and linebreaks and linebreak assists.

Boyd crossed for 11 tries, recorded 11 try assists (ranked second to Jarrod Mullen), made 12 linebreaks (ranked equal second alongside Joey Leilua behind James McManus) and 10 linebreak assists (ranked first).

Jeremy Smith won the Clubman of the Year Award and, in his final season for the Knights, Danny Buderus won Players’ Player Award, which he also won last year.
