Farah to return as Tigers specialist coach

Robbie Farah will make his return to Wests Tigers next year as a specialist coach as part of Michael Maguire’s staff.

A year after his retirement, Farah will take up his infamous ambassadorial role with the club and work in several sectors.

But most important will be the tutelage he offers to the Tigers’ young hookers.

The club’s most capped player will work under Michael Maguire a day or two each week, as the Tigers prepare for life without Harry Grant.

Jacob Liddle is expected to return to the No.9 after an injury-plagued 2020, while Jake Simpkin is considered a star of the future.

Farah attended a club meeting on Tuesday on the state’s Central Coast, with some Tigers players set to return to training next week.

“Hopefully now things ease off with the bubble and I can get more involved,” Farah told AAP.

“It was quite frustrating for me being outside the bubble this year because you sit back and watch on TV but you can’t get involved and help out in any way.

“Seeing the way the season went for the boys was quite difficult to watch.

“So to be back and involved now and help out where I can will be really good.”

It comes as Tigers officials prepare to meet with Josh Addo-Carr’s management on Thursday, to see if the Melbourne flyer will leave the Storm to join them.

Farah’s return is one of several.

Fellow veteran Chris Lawrence is expected to have some kind of off-field role following his retirement, with the Tigers putting a heavy focus on their old boys.

Farah’s ambassador role originally landed the Tigers in hot water in 2018, when they were fined and handed cap penalties for not disclosing the $639,000 offer on his original exit in 2015.

He opted not to immediately move into the ambassador position after last year’s retirement, initially planning to holiday overseas before COVID hit.

Instead, he often watched Tigers training from outside the bubble, before planning to come on board in 2021.
