Gold Coast recruit David Fifita is out to deliver a long-awaited return to the NRL finals arena for the Titans, and possibly more.
The 20-year-old will hit the training paddock for the first time with the Titans on Monday after completing a big money move from Brisbane.
The hard-running backrower will be part of a formidable Titans pack in 2021, including Queensland State of Origin rookie Moeaki Fotuaika and Melbourne-premiership winner Tino Fa’asuamaleaui.
All three players are under 22 and will have Titans fans dreaming of the club’s first top-eight finish since 2016 next year.
“That’s the goal next year top eight, top four,” Fifita said as he was officially unveiled as a Titan on Friday.
“Hopefully we’ll do that next year but I know myself and the boys will train hard in the preseason and yeah, can’t wait, for round one.
“That’s my ultimate goal (premiership). One of my mates has already got one in Tino but yeah, that’s the goal.”
Fifita’s 2020 was wrecked by knee and ankle injuries, which limited him to just nine games for the Broncos and also cost him a spot in Queensland’s Origin squad.
It also made his future and pay packet a media-focus as he weighed up the Titans’ offer versus staying at the Broncos.
That off-field focus is now in the past as far as Fifita is concerned as he looks to regain his fitness and have himself ready to roll for the Titans from round one next year.
“It’s what’s best for myself and my family, I’ve got to look after them,” he said.
“Coming here, seeing how well they did in the back end of the season, and the boys that are coming on board too … I think we can really do something special here but we have to wait and see.”
