Former Rooster Schubert may lose foot

Grand final winner and former rugby league salary cap auditor Ian Schubert may have to have his foot amputated after a motor vehicle accident.

Schubert, a premiership player in Eastern Suburbs’ 1975 grand final winning side, was involved in a collision with a car while riding his motorbike, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The incident happened on Sunday in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

It was reported that Schubert had both arteries in his foot severed when a car, backing out of a driveway, collided with him.

He will have a seven to eight hour operation in the hope of saving the foot.

Schubert was an Australian international who played with the Roosters, Wests and Manly in the 1970s and early 1980s.

He took on a high profile role as the NRL’s salary cap auditor before undertaking similar work for the Roosters.
