Gillett, Glenn no guarantees for Brisbane

Brisbane are still sweating on the fitness of veterans Matt Gillett and Alex Glenn for Friday night’s NRL clash with Penrith at Suncorp Stadium.

Gillett (back) and Glenn (knee) featured at training on Wednesday after being named on an extended bench but the jury is out on whether they will make their NRL return against the Panthers.

Gillett has not been sighted in the NRL since round 15 while Glenn missed last round’s win over North Queensland.

“He is a week to week thing for us. He just has to get himself right,” Broncos utility James Segeyaro said of Gillett.

“We do need him to be 100 per cent these last couple of rounds because he is such an experienced player and such an asset to our team.

“(But) I am not sure how he is tracking for this week.”

Eighth-placed Brisbane have suffered just one loss in their past six games and need to maintain their momentum to remain in the finals mix.

Taking on seventh-placed Penrith will have extra special significance for livewire Segeyaro, who has been named to come off the bench in his 150th NRL game.

The 28-year-old marks his milestone in his first season for Brisbane after NRL stints at North Queensland, Penrith and Cronulla, via English Super League club Leeds, since his 2011 debut.

“I thought I was going to get there a couple of years back but it took a while,” he said.

“I am lucky enough to get there this week against my old club, although I have a couple of them; I have been around a bit.”

He is off contract but was hopeful of remaining at Red Hill next year.

“But it will come down to management and the best choice for me; it would be good to get something sorted soon,” he said.
