Greenberg and Bulldogs cleared

The NRL’s head of football Todd Greenberg and Canterbury Bulldogs have been cleared by the code’s integrity unit over any wrongdoing in the Ben Barba controversy.

An independent report found the Bulldogs and Greenberg acted appropriately and sensitively in addressing issues involving Barba earlier this year.

The report, which was prepared by Tony Bannon SC, was based on first-hand interviews, an assessment of documented records, a review of media allegations and a review of the legal responsibilities facing the Bulldogs.

“I have completed my report and on present information there is no basis for the NRL acting against the club or against Ben Barba,” Bannon said.

Greenberg was chief executive of the Bulldogs when Barba was stood down earlier in the season following issues in his personal life.

A recent newspaper report published pictures of Barba’s ex-partner Ainslie Currie with a cut to her face and alleged it was from an assault by Barba.

Bannon found that based on the facts at hand the club was not in a position to establish an act of domestic violence.
