Manly hero Daly Cherry-Evans had to overcome an injury to kick his team to their golden point win over NRL front-runners Melbourne.
The Sea Eagles captain booted the game-breaker with 36 seconds remaining in extra time to seal an 11-10 victory at AAMI Park on Saturday night.
His Queensland State of Origin coach Kevin Walters noted in television commentary mid-match that the halfback had some sort of injury.
Cherry-Evans was reluctant to provide much detail but said it was a “right side injury” that happened during the match.
He was still able to kick the winner on his preferred right side.
“I haven’t been carrying any extra injuries into this game tonight,” Cherry-Evans said.
“Something did pop up so it was nice to get through the whole game which shows it’s nothing major.
“I will rest up and ice up and get some treatment I will be right for next week.”
Manly coach Des Hasler lauded his captain’s cool head under pressure.
“He’s great in those moments and he enjoys being in them,” Hasler said of Cherry-Evans.
“He backs himself for sure.”
The Sea Eagles, who moved up to fifth on the ladder on the wing, next host Newcastle and could be without Jake Trbojevic.
The workhorse second-rower got through a staggering 69 tackles against the Storm.
Trbojevic was put on report during extra time for an alleged spear tackle that sent Storm fullback Jahrome Hughes to the sidelines for a HIA test.
Hasler said he was concerned about losing his star forward.
“He has carry-overs which we’ll need to check,” he said.
