Leeds’ Super League interest in Moltzen

Leeds coach Brian McDermott admits the Super League champions have an interest in Australian fullback Tim Moltzen.

The 23-year-old Wests Tigers utility is out of contract at the NRL club at the end of the season and has not yet been offered a new deal.

The Rhinos are losing Brent Webb, who is expected to join Catalan Dragons, and have been linked with a move for Moltzen, although McDermott has not ruled out the possibility of filling the vacancy from within.

Webb is sidelined with a knee injury and his place was taken by Zak Hardaker in Monday’s 44-40 win over Wakefield.

“Tim Moltzen is someone who is on a list but there are plenty of names on that list of available players and there is just as much chance of him not signing for us as there is of him coming to Leeds,” McDermott said.

“I thought Zak Hardaker did well at fullback on Monday night and he will only improve with more game time and practice in that position.

“Having said that, Ben Jones-Bishop is an accomplished fullback who has played quite a bit of Super League games there for ourselves and during his season at Quins.

“Kallum Watkins has also played a bit there and I would not mind seeing Ryan Hall have a run there with his specific skill set.”
