Manly hooker Fainu in alleged brawl

The NRL integrity unit is aware of a weekend brawl involving Manly hooker Manase Fainu – with a man allegedly stabbed in the incident.

Fainu was attending a church dance function in Liverpool on Friday night when he was caught up in an alleged brawl, which is currently being investigated by police.

The Sea Eagles passed information about the incident onto the NRL integrity unit on Monday, but there is a belief Fainu has little to worry about.

The 21-year-old recently had shoulder surgery and has his arm in a sling, restricting his movement.

Fainu was set to meet with police on Monday over the matter to give his version of events, after wanting to do so over the weekend.

It’s not suggested he had any criminal involvement.

Fainu is highly rated by coach Des Hasler and those at Manly.

He will be the club’s first-choice No.9 in 2020, after Hasler released Apisai Koroisau from his contract to allow Fainu’s progression.

Dangerous out of dummy-half, Fainu has formed a key part of Manly’s attack through the middle with Tom Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans.

He was, however, banned from the opening round of the 2019 season by the NRL, after pleading guilty last September to recording a sex act without consent.

No conviction was recorded in court for that matter, after a magistrate took into account that Fainu had immediately deleted the recording, and other factors.
