Moa re-signs with Roosters in NRL

New Zealand prop Sam Moa has knocked back interest from rival NRL clubs to sign a new two-year deal with the Sydney Roosters.

The 27-year-old journeyman front-rower was an unsung hero for the Roosters in their 2013 premiership charge and starred for the Kiwis in last week’s Test match against Australia.

Moa, who spent four years in the English Super League until returning to the NRL last year, said he was settled in the Roosters’ chook pen.

“I’ve been a part of a few different clubs but feel like I’ve really found a home here at the Roosters,” he said.

“I’ve worked hard to get to where I am and am so glad to be part of such a well-run organisation from the top down.

“Despite interest from other clubs, I always wanted to stay a Rooster and am so happy that I’m able to. I look forward to continuing to work hard with my teammates to maintain and build on the standards we pride ourselves on.”

Roosters coach Trent Robinson said Moa had become an integral part of the Roosters’ highly fancied engine room.

“Sam has been a significant contributor to our team on and off the field and is highly thought of by everyone involved with the club. His commitment to what we have set out to build here is second to none and, in a short period of time, he’s established himself as a true leader,” Robinson said.

“He has been a standout player for us so far this year and to ensure we have him here for a further two years is great news for the Roosters.”
