New South Wales Blues vs Queensland Maroons Preview

Brad Fittler’s New South Wales side is aiming for its fourth series win in five years but will have to do so without a couple of injured stars against a promising Queensland outfit.

Game 1 is taking place in Sydney, the first Origin fixture in New South Wales since 2020 after the entire series was played in Queensland last year due to COVID-19.

The Blues have won the past three Origin matches at Accor Stadium, with their last defeat coming in 2017.

Jack Wighton and Kotoni Staggs are the centre combo for the Blues with Daniel Tupou picked over Josh Addo-Carr on the wing for his aerial ability.

Ryan Matterson and Stephen Crichton are named on the bench for their Origin debuts.

Queensland has named Selwyn Cobbo, Reuben Cotter, Patrick Carrigan and Jeremiah Nanai for their debuts in the Origin arena.

Ben Hunt has been chosen to start at dummy half with Harry Grant taking the no.14 jumper in his return from injury.
