The New Zealand Warriors will be commencing a season in their home country for the first time in four years as they welcome the Newcastle Knights at Sky Stadium. The Warriors’ last game in Wellington was in 2019, and despite taking seven attempts to register their first win at the venue, they have won three out of their last four at ‘The Cake Tin.’

Both teams are coming off a disappointing season, having only won six games each. The Knights had made the finals in two previous seasons but had a dramatic fall to 14th place last year. The Warriors, on the other hand, finished one spot below the Knights, which was their worst finish since their formation in 1995.

Lachlan Miller is set to make his debut for the Knights at fullback, which will allow Kalyn Ponga to move into the five-eighth position. Ponga will partner with Jackson Hastings in a new-look halves pairing. Meanwhile, the Warriors’ new-look 17 will be headlined by Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Marata Niukore, Dylan Walker, Mitch Barnett, and Te Maire Martin.
