No relief for Packer after toilet break

There is no relief in sight for Warriors prop Russell Packer after being caught urinating on the field before Monday night’s record 58-16 NRL win over the Broncos.

A less than impressed Warriors CEO Wayne Scurrah was expected to grill Packer on his return to New Zealand on Tuesday after the NRL issued the club with a $15,000 breach notice for the very public toilet break.

Packer apologised on Twitter but it remains to be seen whether that will hold water with the unhappy Warriors boss.

“Hey guys just a quick apology to you and your family regarding my accident last night,” Packer tweeted on Tuesday.

“It has offended some which i am sorry it was an unfortunate thing that happened.

“I hope this apology eases your mind somewhat and helps you move on from it as i will be doing.”

It was in contrast to Packer’s initial reaction to the furore caused when Fox Sports TV cameras showed the prop urinating in his pants then shaking his legs before the kick-off on Queensland league’s hallowed turf, Suncorp Stadium.

“Good win when u gotta go u gotta go lol,” Packer tweeted after the 10-tries-to-three win.

Scurrah said he would meet Packer on Tuesday before responding to the breach notice.

But he said the club and Packer “deeply regretted the incident had occurred”.

The Warriors have five working days to make submissions over the notice.

“This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and there is no excuse for it,” said NRL general manager of football operations, Nathan McGuirk.

The last infamous incident involving a player answering the call of nature on the field occurred at the same ground.

Manly prop Don McKinnon was fined for weeing during the Broncos’ debut match in 1988.
