North Queensland Cowboys vs Melbourne Storm Preview
North Queensland save some face last week, responding a humiliating 66-18 loss to Wests Tigers with a spirited 26-18 loss at Parramatta despite the absence of four Origin players.
The Cowboys rallied late to set up a grandstand finish, with Scott Drinkwater especially impressive.
But it didn’t improve the Cowboys’ overall plight, mired in second-last with a 5-8 record.
Maroons 18th man Tom Dearden has been named to start, while Valentine Holmes, Murray Taulagi and Reuben Cotter are all in the reserves.
Jeremiah Nanai returns on the bench, while Jason Taumalolo is also among the reserves.
Semi Valemei is on the wing in debutant Robert Derby’s place, should Taulagi not back up.
Melbourne continue to fly under the radar, sharing the competition lead after consecutive 24-16 wins over Brisbane at AAMI Park and the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium before the Round 13 bye.
The Storm were more dominant than the scoreboard suggested against the Dolphins, with Eli Katoa enjoying a breakout game and Jahrome Hughes and Nick Meaney in great tough.
The Storm have named Cameron Munster and Harry Grant in an unchanged 17.
North Queensland carved out a stunning 36-6 win over Melbourne in Round 11 last year to snap a 12-match losing streak in the rivalry.
Expect normal transmission to resume in Townsville – even if the Storm’s Origin stars don’t back up and the Cowboys’ do.
