An investigation by the NRL has reportedly revealed that a number of players are involved in betting on matches.
The findings by the game’s integrity unit were laid out to several clubs on Friday, and a number of players are believed to be facing sanctions, The Weekend Australian reports.
NRL rules forbid any player, manager, club employee or game official from taking part in gambling in relation to rugby league.
The newspaper said it was unclear how many clubs or players were involved, but that the investigation had involved multiple players and multiple teams.
The investigation was reportedly launched after the NRL and its betting partners conducted a review of gambling within the code.
