NRL star Tomkins fined for wee in public

Warriors star Sam Tomkins has been fined by police and his NRL club after being caught urinating in public on the Gold Coast.

The England fullback was issued with an on-the-spot $100 ticket by police over the incident in Broadbeach early on Sunday following his side’s 24-16 win over Gold Coast the previous night.

The Warriors said they were made aware of the incident on Monday and slapped Tomkins with an additional $NZ2000 ($A1862) fine.

“I’m disappointed in myself,” said 25-year-old Tomkins in a club statement on Tuesday.

“I thought I was in a secluded spot but realise I still made a poor decision.”

Warriors general manager Dean Bell said the club accepted Tomkins’ admission that he made an error in judgement.

“He knows this kind of behaviour is unacceptable,” Bell said.

Tomkins left the English Super League to join the Warriors this season and, despite a slow start, has started to show the sort of form that made him a superstar in his home country.

He isn’t the first Warrior to be disciplined for urinating in public.

Former player Russell Packer was fined $15,000 for his infamous on-field leak at Suncorp Stadium in June last year.

Earlier this month the club fined bullocking centre Konrad Hurrell $5000 after a sex video featuring him was leaked onto the internet.
