Brisbane centre Alex Glenn admits he may have to return to the back-row in Friday night’s crucial NRL clash with Parramatta after lock Joe Ofahengaue left training with a knee complaint.
And in another worry for the eighth-placed Broncos, interchange forward Thomas Flegler is battling illness.
Losing another forward would be a body blow for Brisbane who are already without suspended enforcer Tevita Pangai.
But Glenn backed Brisbane’s forward depth, putting his hand up to help fill the void if Queensland State of Origin back-rower Ofahengaue failed to prove his fitness.
“If that happens I am up for it,” said ex-Kiwi international back-rower Glenn, who has played two of the last three NRL games in the centres.
“Davey Fifita can move into the middle (lock) and I can go into the back-row.
“It might happen. But we’ve got good depth.
“It is not ideal when there is a bit of sickness going around and you have a player go down at training but we’ve had a bit of chaos all year and dealt with it.”
Glenn said whoever ran out for Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium against sixth-placed Eels would not be short of motivation.
Brisbane need to win their remaining two regular season games to ensure a top-eight spot.
And Glenn said they were still smarting from their round 14, 38-10 thrashing from the Eels at Bankwest Stadium.
“It is do or die,” he said.
“And there has been a lot of talk about that (round 14 loss). As a team when the coaches weren’t there this morning we had a talk about that.
“We just got bullied, out-energised on the field and we don’t want that to happen again.
“We want a bit of revenge …and to go into the finals with a lot of confidence.”
