Penrith Panthers vs Parramatta Eels 2014 NRL Round 12 preview, tips, odds and teams

For the first time this season, the Panthers recorded back-to-back wins in round 10 with a 26 – 20 victory of the Raiders in Canberra.

Combined with the two points from last week’s bye, the Panthers now sit third on the competition ladder courtesy of a superior for-and-against, on the some points as the Melbourne Storm and this week’s opponents the Eels.

This will be the first home-game for the Panthers in the past month and with a home record of 4 – 1, they’ll be hoping to improve that record further and exact some revenge on the Eels who defeated them in round 4, 32 – 16.

The Panthers have amassed 82 points in their last three games with winger David Simmons crossing for five tries during that period.

Each of those games have been against teams outside of the eight however (Raiders, Newcastle and Cronulla) and the Eels will be the first top eight side, who the Panthers have a 2 – 3 record against thus far this year, since they narrowly beat the Titans 14 -12 in round 6.

EELS
The Eels kept their perfect home record this year intact with a comprehensive 36 – 0 win over the Dragons in round 10.

It was the Eels fifth win from the past seven weeks which includes a victory over the Panthers in round 4.

The Eels have also scored plenty of points in their past two matches, registering fourteen tries and a total of seventy-eight points.

Four or those tries have been scored by fullback Jarryd Hayne who will be involved in this Wednesday’s State Of Origin and it’s significant to Parramatta’s chances here that he is able to back-up and take his position. He has been named in the side with the only change made to last week’s successful side being Ryan Morgan coming in for centre Willie Tonga.

The Eels have only one victory from five away games this year and on the verge of a very tough few weeks were they are due to face the Cowboys (H), Bulldogs (A) and Storm (A) in consecutive weeks, a win here is vital.

HEAD TO HEAD
The Panthers have won five of the seven games between the two clubs since 2011 and two of three played at Sportingbet Stadium during that time.

Each of those games at this venue as produced plenty of points, 45, 37 and 56 and with both teams in form and scoring tries, a similar total her would not surprise.

Whilst the stats tip this one in favourite of the Panthers it is only just and the current market is relative wide one.

Parramatta are in better form now than at anytime since 2011 and are capable of winning this one, albeit just.
