Raiders’ Tapine escapes NRL ban for punch

Canberra lock Joe Tapine has escaped with a fine after being sin binned for throwing a punch in the Raiders’ stunning 22-18 NRL win over Melbourne.

Tapine will be fined $1150 with an early plea after being charged with grade one contrary conduct by the match review committee after the first-half incident on Saturday night.

Tapine received a 10-minute spell in the 16th minute after reacting to Storm prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona prior to a scrum and throwing a punch.

Tapine – who is nursing a rib injury from the Storm clash -will be fined $1500 if he fights the charge and loses.

Meanwhile, Storm playmaker Cameron Munster will escape suspension with an early plea after being charged with grade one dangerous contact for his 63rd-minute tackle on Sia Soliola.

Canterbury forward Aiden Tolman will be free to play this week despite being charged with grade one dangerous contact in their shock 14-6 win over South Sydney on Saturday night.
