Scott cops one game ban for Cowboys in NRL

North Queensland have been dealt another blow with prop Matt Scott to miss Thursday night’s match against Manly after his ban for a shoulder charge was upheld by the NRL judiciary on Tuesday night.

The struggling Cowboys will now be three forwards down for the Lottoland clash with Coen Hess and Gavin Cooper on State of Origin duty.

It’s been a tough season for both Scott and the Cowboys, the rugged forward missing Maroons selection and last year’s grand finalists sitting second last with just three wins.

Scott will miss the one game for his hit on Melbourne’s Young Tonumaipea.

“It’s disappointing, obviously it didn’t go the way we wanted it to,” Scott said after the hearing.

“I thought I had a pretty good argument with two areas of the charge, using both arms and a duty of care.

“I’ve seen a lot of other tackles in games recently that are a lot more dangerous and resulted in injury. It’s quite frustrating to be given a week for, in my opinion, a pretty innocuous tackle.”

Meanwhile Cronulla star Wade Graham is currently contesting a dangerous contact charge for a crusher tackle.

Graham was charged for the tackle on Newcastle’s Kalyn Ponga in the Sharks’ thumping of the Knights on Sunday.

Failure to defend the charge will see him miss Friday’s clash with South Sydney.

Graham’s inclusion would be a massive bonus for Cronulla, given Souths are without four State of Origin stars and the Sharks will only lose Valentine Holmes to the representative arena.

Meanwhile Newcastle prop Herman Ese’ese will miss Saturday’s clash with Parramatta after entering an early guilty plea for a high tackle.
