Slater’s top moments for Queensland

BILLY SLATER’S GREATEST MOMENTS FOR QLD

Game II 2004

In his debut Origin series Slater was Queensland’s game two hero after a brilliant chip and regather over NSW fullback Anthony Minichiello to score a decisive try.

It was Slater’s second four-pointer in the game and he also made a critical try-saving tackle in the match which the Maroons won 22-18.

Game III 2008

Slater scored the game winning try in the 16-10 series decider after teammate Johnathan Thurston fooled the Blues defence with his trademark dummy.

Games I and II 2009

Queensland won the series in two games, with Slater scoring the first try of game one 10 minutes in by grounding a Cameron Smith grubber. Slater saved the day a few times in defence in game two, Queensland winning 24-14 and Smith calling him the “best fullback in the world”.

Game III 2010

Slater’s final game performance saw him crowned man-of-the-match, Wally Lewis player of the series and Queensland’s players’ player. The fullback scored the match winning try with five minutes left on the clock, helping the Maroons to a series clean-sweep for the first time in their five-year Origin reign with a 23-18 win over NSW.

Games I and III 2011

In game one Slater made a try-saving tackle on NSW’s Michael Jennings in the second half, and scored the match-winning try in the 69th minute from a Darren Lockyer pass.

Game two saw Slater set up a Sam Thaiday try in the first half and then score one himself. He produced the big plays when needed in both defence and attack, with Queensland winning 34-24, clinching the series 2-1.

Game II 2017

After back-to-back shoulder reconstructions Slater lined up for his first match for Queensland since game two in 2015. He played a pivotal role in the match-winning Dane Gagai try.
