Snapshot of round 14 of the NRL season

WHAT HAPPENED IN ROUND 14 OF THE NRL

* QUOTE OF THE ROUND: “Not having byes and the rule changes have increased the intensity by about 10 to 15 per cent. There are consequences for that, a better game and more injuries at the moment.” – Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson on how he knew a hefty injury toll would come when he sat on Project Apollo and restarted the NRL season.

* STAT THAT MATTERS: North Queensland are in the midst of their worst losing streak in 12 years, having dropped seven in a row after their 31-30 defeat to South Sydney.

* MAGIC MOMENT: Cameron McInnes presenting Paul McGregor with his St George Illawarra jersey after the coach’s last game in charge of the club. McInnes reasoned that McGregor gave him his first Dragons jersey so he wanted to give him his last after their defeat of Parramatta.

* MAN OF THE ROUND: Adam Reynolds again delivered when it mattered most for South Sydney. Nailed a penalty goal in the dying minutes before kicking a field goal in the next set to help the Rabbitohs get out of jail against the Cowboys.

* TALKING POINT: Will Kevin Proctor face a lengthy suspension for allegedly biting Shaun Johnson’s arm? Gold Coast’s loss to Cronulla blew up when Proctor was the first man to be sent off for biting in NRL history.

* JUDICIARY WATCH: Melbourne – Jesse Bromwich (dangerous contact); The Warriors – Eliese Katoa (dangerous contact); St George Illawarra – Tyrell Fuimaono (dangerous contact); Gold Coast – Kevin Proctor (biting); South Sydney – Liam Knight (dangerous contact); North Queensland – Jake Granville (dangerous contact); Brisbane – Payne Haas (dangerous contact); Canterbury – Dylan Napa (dangerous contact)

* CASUALTY WARD: Melbourne – Jahrome Hughes (groin); Suliasi Vunivalu (jaw); The Sydney Roosters – Mitchell Aubusson (wrist), Lachlan Lam (ankle), Luke Keary (rib); Gold Coast – Jai Arron (shoulder), Dale Copley (pectoral); Cronulla – Shaun Johnson (groin), Josh Dugan (knee); South Sydney – Bayley Sironen (leg); Brisbane – Jake Turpin (hand); Manly – Brendan Elliot (knee); Newcastle – Daniel Saifiti (knee); Canterbury – Kieran Foran (ankle).

* UNDER PRESSURE: The Sydney Roosters. The two-time defending premiers are fourth and aren’t in any danger of missing the top eight but their title hopes have suffered a real hit with Luke Keary and Mitchell Aubusson adding to their mounting injury list.
