SOUTH SYDNEY
The Rabbitohs climbed to fifth spot on the ladder after recording their fifth win from their past six matches with a seemingly improbable 34 – 18 in round 13 over the New Zealand Warriors.

It was the seventh time this year, more than any other team in the competition, that the Rabbitohs have recorded a 13+ winning margin.

Souths trialled the Warriors 14 – 6 in the 50th minute and were faced an extensive injury toll that included fullback Greg Inglis who left the field with a ankle injury right on half-time from which he didn’t return.

However five tries in the last quarter of the match saw the Rabbitohs finish with a full head of steam and the win will be one they refer to should they ever be in a similar situation again.

Centre Dylan Walker bagged a double to take his season tally to eight tries from twelve appearances and winger Joel Reddy was also among the try-scorers, having now scored three tries in the past two rounds.

Unfortunately for Souths, Walker will be out for this week’s match with a broken hand along with Origin Reps, Inglis, McQueen and T’eo.

WEST TIGERS

The West Tigers travelled to Newcastle last week to take on the Knights and toughed out a much needed 23 – 20 win, only their second from their past five weeks.

The Tigers welcomed back Robbie Farrah, Aaron Woods and James Tedesco to the starting line up with all three posting good individual stats for the game. Without the trio, the result may have easily been reversed.

Tedesco scored first in the sixth minute but it wasn’t then until the sixtieth-sixth minute of the game that they again got their noses in front courtesy of a Pat Richards field-goal.

Thankfully for the West Tigers and supporters, the Knights haven’t had much success this season and are struggling to close out games that they are in a position to win and the Tigers would have been relieved to have left Hunter Stadium with the two competition points.

With the Knights posting 20 points, it made it the fourth side in the past five weeks to have at least registered this amount of points and with Souths in strong form and posting plenty of points recently, they’ll need to tighten this aspect of their game right up.

HEAD TO HEAD

These two sides last met in round 3 of this season with the Tigers unexpected victors, 25 – 16. That was the first time in six matches that the Tigers have been successful against the Rabbitohs.

The Rabbitohs have surprisingly lost their last four matches at ANZ Stadium and although missing several players this week, should still have enough ammunition in their side to account for the Tigers who will miss Farrah and Woods up front especially.
