Souths target improved Tigers’ NRL attack

Wests Tigers are set to be among the big improvers of the NRL season, according to South Sydney coach Michael Maguire.

Maguire’s Rabbitohs meet Wests Tigers on Friday night and the coach is wary of their revamped attack which is proving one of the competition’s most potent.

After two rounds, the Tigers have scored the second highest number of points, 66, behind table toppers St George Illawarra (75).

The Tigers put the Titans to the sword, winning 42-12 on Sunday with Luke Brooks sparking a backline which includes attacking weapons James Tedesco, Pat Richards and David Nofoaluma.

“I think they are a really improved team,” Maguire said on Wednesday.

“The way they played on the weekend, they started very fast.

“Two weeks in a row now they have scored two or three tries within 10 minutes so we need to be right on our own game to start with.

“Their halves, young Brooks is pushing the team around and their attack is going well.

“Our defence needs to be spot on this week. The Tigers do thrown a lot of passes around and a lot of plays at you, even coming out of yardage.”

Maguire has reshuffled his team following the 14-12 round two loss to Manly, with Joel Reddy moving into the centres in place of Beau Champion.

“Beau himself admitted it probably wasn’t one of his best games,” Maguire said.

“That’s one thing he is, he is very honest.

“It’s about Beau playing. He has spent a lot of time unfortunately last year and through the pre-season with injuries and it is just about game time now.

“If he goes back and performs and he gets another opportunity I know he will respond.

“With Joel coming in, he has trained really well in the preseason and I’m really looking forward to seeing him run around for the first time in a Souths jersey against his old team.”

Maguire said Dylan Walker (ankle) and Chris McQueen (leg) will undergo fitness tests on Thursday.
